History of the CBWE
In 1998, local Virginia musicians Robert Arledge and Jim Paschall
formed the Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble to allow the many exceptional local
amateur,
professional
and semi-professional musicians to perform and share their musical expertise
with the local community. Outstanding high school student musicians are particularly
welcomed and allowed to hone their talents as they pursue a passion they will
be able to enjoy the rest of their lives. One of the band's traditions is to
provide scholarships to deserving graduating student musicians that participate.
Since inception, the Ensemble has become the Peninsula's premier community-based
performing group, currently including almost 60 musicians and focusing on symphonic
works. Five or six performances are offered to the public at various venues on
the Virginia Peninsula. The band operates as a non-profit organization and donations
are tax deductible.
