Community Involvement and Educational Outreach

We believe that appreciation for the arts begins with accessibility for all. We perform a concert series of four concerts each year. These concerts are open to the public at an admission cost used solely to cover the many expenses of the ensemble. These concerts often program the music of our country's heritage and culture, as well as feature distinguished guest artists from the community as well as members of the ensemble itself.

We aim to promote active involvement in cultural education to our community. As advocates of the Hampton Roads performing arts community, we feel that nurturing creativity with our volunteer members - performers and staff volunteers alike - the community gains a creative and engaged group of professionals.
Scholarship Program
Student involvement is a key aspect of our community outreach and mission. As one of the foremost arts organizations in the Tidewater area, the Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble recognizes its responsibility to shape the future of young people. We encourage these ties with the community by including students in the ensemble. Local High School Directors nominate the best of their students to practice and perform with the band, providing them invaluable experience. The band is particularly proud of their community partnership with the public schools by providing scholarships to graduating high school seniors to help further their musical interests.

Recent scholarship recipients:
2023 - Madison Dryden (French horn and trumpet)
2018 - Andrew Parker (French horn)

Small Ensembles
In addition to our large ensemble work, the Chesapeake Bay Winds engage in small chamber and group performances. These include, but are not limited to, chamber winds, brass ensembles, saxophone quartets, and jazz/dance bands. These ensembles are often established independently by the members of the ensemble and perform for various events in the local community. If you would like more information about these chamber ensembles, or if you would like to schedule a performance, please contact us at cbweband@gmail.com.
